The Shadows Project

THE SHADOWS PROJECT (click to visit)

The Shadows Project is a group of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds exploring every facet of the unknown. Collectively, they have explored and investigated some of the most notoriously haunted locations in Southern Ontario.

Join us today as we welcome Shadows Project members nAz (Stephen Willett) and Elvis Podvorac as we find out what motivates them as ghost investigators.

What motivated you to get involved in the "ghost hunting" field?

nAz: What motivated me? That’s something my wife would like to know as well! All kidding aside and I won’t bore you to death with the “I’ve seen ghosts all my life” blah blah, my main motivation was Fort Mississauga in Niagara on the Lake. I was invited for a private tour of the inside of the Fort and was amazed at what I felt and what appeared in the pictures I took. After I posted the pictures on a local website, I was contacted by Kevin V. of Niagara Amateur Ghost Seekers. I soon after joined N.A.G.S. and the rest is history!

Elvis: It started with an idea Ace had when we were throwing around ideas for Altered Egos Productions. He mentioned a documentary about ghost hunting. The idea really struck a chord with me and I started researching ghost hunting groups on the web. I think I must have found every site out there at the time, but none of them had what I was looking for; until I happened across the Niagara Amateur Ghost Seekers. After going out with them on a couple of hunts, things changed for me in a big way. I found out pretty quickly that I had a knack for ghost hunting and I have been going strong ever since.

How long have you been "hunting ghosts"?

nAz: I’ve been “hunting” ghosts since 2005 – Yeah I know, it hasn’t been a long time.

Elvis: Since the summer of 2005.

What has your most memorable experience with TSP been?

nAz: Chippawa Battlefield. We conducted an investigation in July at that location. It was VERY active that night. The team worked together like clockwork and the spirit’s were active. If you want to know more, you’ll have to visit the site.

Elvis: Without a doubt, my most memorable experience was Chippawa Battlefield. I have interacted with ghosts in the past, but that night at the battlefield was exceptionally intense. I had a sense of purpose.

What is the one experience (outside of TSP) that has shaped your belief in the paranormal?

nAz: I was visited by a male spirit when I was a child. When I asked for an explanation from my parents and clergy, I was given answers that sounded false and condescending. Those answers motivated me to search for them myself. I discovered another world so to say. What I found shaped my beliefs and the way I look at everything.

Elvis: I have always believed in ghosts. Ever since I was little I had no doubt that they existed. One night, when I was maybe 5 or 6 years old, I thought I saw a lady walk up the hallway and stand in the doorway to my bedroom and look at me for a few minutes and then leave. It could have been a dream. But thirty years later, I still have that image, down to the last detail seared into my memory. Why that dream, if it was a dream? And not the thousands of other dreams I have had over the years since then? It's a small, unremarkable experience, yet it is my most prolific experience.

Have your experiences proven to you (without a shadow of a doubt) that there is something out there?

nAz: Yes.

Elvis: Yes. (Nice pun, btw.)

What would you recommend to people who may be interested in starting their own ghost hunting groups?

nAz: Do it!

Elvis: Go for it!!
